NESHAP Building Inspections: A Critical Step before Renovation or Demolition

If you are planning a remodel, tenant improvement, or full demolition at a building, you might be asked to provide the most recent NESHAP Building Inspection Report. This is not simply another project document…it is a critical requirement under the Federal Clean Air Act. NESHAP, or National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants, specifically, 40 CFR Part 61, Subpart M, establishes requirements for how commercial, industrial, and residential buildings are handled prior to construction activities. Failing to complete a NESHAP building inspection prior to renovation or demolition activities can lead to strict federal or state fines and potential health hazards.

Before any renovation or demolition activity, federal and state regulations require a comprehensive asbestos building inspection conducted by an accredited asbestos inspector. The purpose of the inspection is to locate, identify, and quantify any asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) before they are disturbed by renovation or demolition activities. Point Blue’s accredited and experienced asbestos inspectors perform NESHAP building inspections as well as manage the asbestos aspect and what effects it will have on the project. Once a NESHAP building inspection is complete, Point Blue can utilize the information from the inspection to develop preliminary asbestos abatement budget, scope of work, and bid specifications.

The NESHAP building inspection helps protect workers, your project, and your budget. By providing comprehensive asbestos consulting and inspection services, Point Blue helps ensure projects remain safe, compliant, and on schedule. Our industrial hygienists are always happy to help guide you through any project that requires a NESHAP building inspection.
